The asphalt-kollektiv is a multidisciplinary collective. We conceive and develop projects in the fields of architecture, art and culture. Our projects assemble around topics such as sustainable use of spaces and materials, social and architectural utopias and their impact on society and much more that we are interested in and enjoy. Collaborative exchange is indispensable for our work. Currently we are based in Berlin, Stuttgart and Vienna.

In the summer semester 2020, in cooperation with "The Baukunst Studio", we dedicated ourselves to the topic of climate change and the question "What can we as architects contribute to the turnaround?" under the title ”Denken Sie Gross - Utopias Of Change For 21st Century To Save Our Earth".
In a variety of digital lounges, the status quo and important current issues and possible answers to this question were discussed together with our guests from a wide range of disciplines and the students and translated into cinematic documentaries and productions.
Based on Bruno Latour's "Down to Earth: Politics in the New Climatic Regime", we outlined new terrestrial utopias that provide architectural answers to the new geo-social question of the 21st century.

Since 2015, the Reallabor Space Sharing has been investigating the possibilities and impacts of an intensification of the the use of existing and new buildings as well as of street and square spaces through multiple uses. Space Sharing is of vital importance for the reduction of the still increasing demand of space in conurbation, combined with a sustainable revitalization of these areas. As part of the five-year research, a typology atlas on sharing space was developed.

The Space
Option: exhibition space
Option: lecture and presentation space
Option: workspace

The Space Sharing Raumlabor at the Chair Housing and Architectural Design at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart offers students and teachers, as well as external people, the opportunity to experience the space as a shared space. The chair can be transformed into a workspace, study space, exhibition space, meeting space, lecture and presentation space, and event space through quick conversion. Simultaneous working and meeting is possible due to the spatial separation in the form of a translucent and sound-absorbing strip curtain.

Wiener Null
Vienna
Competition
Urban Design

The Wiener Null describes an area that is created by the continuous reconstruction of the city and successively places various territories under protection. With the implementation of this Terrestrial Landscape, the current determining issues of urban development such as climate change and land policy are taken into account.
The new three-dimensional habitat, is conceived as a symbiotic unity of flora, fauna and civilization. This zone includes the processes in the earth, the vegetation on the surface of the earth, and the urban buildings above. By raising the buildings, the ground is kept free from intensive human use and a construction stop and deconstruction zone is implemented.
The Wiener Null is a self-initiated urban planning project that contributes to the current architectural discourse on the sustainable and socially-just development of our cities. The project was developed digitally as well as analogously. Thus, in addition to a theoretical discussion in the form of essays, large-format pencil drawings were created, which as such cannot be reproduced and thus build a bridge to the project in terms of content: the surface of the earth is finite, the soil is not a reproducible commodity.
The project was nominated for the Superscape 2020 shortlist.

The science exhibition "Pretty Porous - Alles Porös" at the Planetarium Stuttgart provides insights into the world of porous media and shows how current research makes the invisible visible.
The exhibition is designed as a "shared space" in the foyer of the Stuttgart Planetarium and leads visitors through the mostly hidden everyday work of researchers. Desks, monitors, a printer - the everyday work infrastructure of the researchers become a special kind of exhibition display and serve to convey the content of the exhibition. Seven workstations allow different approaches to the topic of porous media: from a quick introduction to the topic, through short explanatory texts, videos and graphics on the screens, to the scientific texts and research results as originals. These everyday workplace situations are given an intimate and special lighting atmosphere with the help of desk lamps and the screens as luminous objects, within a darkened room. Suspended vertical louvers, as space-forming elements, frame the workstations and span different zones in the foyer of the planetarium. The slats rotate, open and close - this additional programming creates flexible and dynamic spaces. As visitors wander through the exhibition, new visual relationships, perspectives and permeabilities are constantly created. These support the atmospheric framework and accompany the visitors into a world of research on porous media, in order to make visible what surrounds us, but is nevertheless unseen.
The project was realized in cooperation between the SFB 1313 of the University of Stuttgart and the Reallabor Space Sharing of the Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. The exhibition took place at the Planetarium Stuttgart from June 18 to August 30, 2020.

Performance

Space Sharing Pop-Ups are performative artistic and social installations that question the political dimension of the term "sharing" and put it up for discussion. The Pop-Up at the ZKM Karlsruhe took place at the exhibition “Writing the History of the Future”. The Pop-Up created a temporary work and meeting space for the employees of the Reallabor Space Sharing in the exhibition space. Other Pop-Ups took place at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, the Galerie Kernweine and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
